Francophonie Festival

Francophonie is a weeklong event which kicks off with school festivals for both high school and primary school, but on separate days. During the school festival students are required to do activities such as a spelling bee, la grand lassive which is drawing competition and Dis mot dis mot. Then we have the activation day which will be an outdoor cinema, screening a French movie on the 19th of March 2020. On the 28st of March will be the main day of the festival where we will be having live performances from local upcoming and professional artists, this is great way to expose the artists. We will have fun activities for kids in the kids ‘zone as well, local craft artists will also be part of the festival selling their products made of recycle material. A lot of fun activities will happening during the festival.

ART EXHIBITION

Art is another form of communication and expression. This year’s first exhibition will be  a Swazi artist he is talented. Join us for a remarkable and eye catching exhibition on the 27th of February 2020, at Alliance Française De Mbabane behind the Ministry of Education from 5:30pm to 8pm.

Cooking Workshop

A cooking workshop is a beginning series of cooking classes perfect for cooks who are just starting out or would like to refresh their fundamentals. Come Join us for a fun and relaxed cooking workshop on the 23rd of January 2020, where we will be learning how to make a French inspired dish. The dish for the day is Quiche Lorraine! Don’t miss such a fun evening experience which will add to a few of your tricks you have up your sleeve.

CALL FOR ARTISTS 2020

Alliance Française de Mbabane is doing an artist call for 2020 shows. We are looking for different types of artists: visual art artists, dance, music, theatre and poetry. The purpose of this, is to help promote upcoming artists in Eswatini and to give them the platform to showcase their artistic talents. Interested artists have to fill in the form below, that is downloadable as an image, and submit it via email culture@afmbabane.org / director@afmbabane.org or hand deliver at Alliance Française behind the ministry of education, by the 6th of December 2019.

Every first Friday of the Month, Join us for some live music and enjoy our special French dish on the menu. A great way to start the weekend.

We also organize cooking workshops for you to learn how to prepare delious French specialties. We also have wine tasting events, where you can buy a bottle.

Every Year in March, Francophone culture are celebrated across the world. The week long festival is open to all with art, dance, music and much much more on the program.

The Francophonie Culture festival celebrates the diversity and richness of the French language and Francophone communities around the world through a series of cultural events.

Our story

The Alliance Française was established in Paris in 1883 by eminent figures of the arts, the sciences, and politics to ensure the influence of the French language and culture around the world.

The Alliance Française de Mbabane-AFM- was created in 1985 it is the language and cultural center of eSwatini and is accredited by the Foundation Alliance Francaise. It cooperates with the Ministries of Education, and several local artists.

AFM belongs to the Southern African network of 20 Alliances and to the world network of 968 Alliances spread out in 136 countries on all five continents.

Our teachers are French, Francophone and Swazi. We run courses for children from 6 years up to adults!
